The 36-year-old Novak Djokovic has become the oldest man in the Open Era to win the US Open. The Serb bested Daniil Medvedev 6–3, 7–6 (5), 6–3 to also enter the tennis history books by equaling Margaret Court’s longstanding record of 24 Grand Slam titles.

The last time the two players met at Flushing Meadows, in the 2021 US Open, the Russian captured what remains his only major title to date. More importantly, Medvedev denied Djokovic a rare calendar Grand Slam. The Serb ensured he was not at the receiving end again with a comprehensive win.

Having played in 10 US Open finals, Djokovic has now won the year’s final Grand Slam tournament for a fourth time. The result also capped another remarkable Grand Slam campaign for the Serb, with the player also securing wins at the Australian Open and the French Open while also making it to the title decider at Wimbledon, losing to Carlos Alcaraz in a tough five-set encounter.

By winning a record 24th Grand Slam title, Djokovic also ensured a return to the top of the ATP Tour rankings.
