In the French Open 2023, It’s Grand Slam No. 23 for Djokovic
Before we bid adieu to Roland Garros, and say Au revoir…
The 2023 edition of the French Open is over. What we do know now is that Iga Świątek has successfully defended her women’s singles title, and won the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen for a third time.
The Pole, who also won at Roland Garros in 2020, beat Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil, seeded 14, 6–2, 7–6 (7) in the second semi-final on Court Philippe-Chatrier. The top-ranked player, who hasn’t dropped a set en route to the final, dropped the second set in the decider against Karolina Muchova, before winning 6–2, 5–7, 6–4.
The unseeded Czech, who saved a match point in a stirring 3 hour, 13-minute comeback against Aryna Sabalenka, the Australian Open champion and the second seed, winning their semi-final 7–6 (5), 6–7 (5), 7–5, played a good final at Roland Garros.
In the men’s singles competition, Novak Djokovic eased past Norway’s Casper Ruud, the finalist from last year, 7–6 (1), 6–3, 7–5 in the final.
The Serb now has a record 23 Grand Slam titles to his name, three of them having come at the French Open.
Even as we await the Wimbledon, and as the year’s third major tournament approaches, it’s time to have a look back at all the special stories written by yours truly during this edition of the French Open.
