Refusal Reeks of Irresponsibility…
…And rejection by a publication is no reason for disappointment
Has any publication refused your draft? Have you got a private note intimating you of their decision not to go ahead with your submission? Has an email from an editor informed you of the rejection?
Do not get disappointed. It is not the end of the world. There’s always the brighter side to things that happen in life, and that includes rejection. In any case, that publication was not the only option. There is always lots of alternatives to choose from. The option of self publishing is always there.
That being said, a refusal is always an opportunity for self introspection. It is the chance to go back to the drawing board and look back at your own mistakes, if any.
Maybe you did not make the submission commensurate to the rules of the publication. Maybe you did not have a chance to go through the guidelines in detail. Maybe your draft had too many grammatical errors, and you didn’t remember to give it a second look. Maybe there were others aspects that you ignored altogether.
Once you have made sure of things from your end it is time to think about the other side. Maybe the volume is too much to handle for the editors, and you were among the unfortunate writers who bore the brunt…
