The 2024 edition of the French Open is over. What we do know now is that Iga Świątek has successfully defended her women’s singles title, and won the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen for a third straight year, and for a fourth time overall. It was the fifth Grand Slam trophy in a career that is still in a fledgling stage.

The Pole, who also won at Roland Garros in 2020, beat Czech Markéta Vondroušová (6–0, 6–2) in the last eight and the third seeded American Coco Gauff 6–2, 6–4 in the semi-final. The top-ranked player, dropped just one set en route to the final, saving a match point in the second round against Naomi Osaka of Japan.

Świątek eased past Jasmine Paolini of Italy, seeded 12, 6–2, 6–1 in the decider. However, it was her 6–0, 6–0 win over Anastasia Potapova in the fourth round, which lasted 40 minutes, that was the shortest match played at the French Open since the 1988 Roland Garros final between Steffi Graf and Natasha Zvereva.
